Our Farm

Located along the beautiful Magalies Mountain Range, is our avocado farm, Karsten Hills. Our farm is family owned and operated. Along with our avocados, we raise cattle, sheep, chickens, turkeys, bees, and our beloved Great Danes.
Our Great Danes are part of the family and have full access to our farm. All of our Danes are well socialized with people and animals. So much so, that at times it is difficult to differentiate our black and white Ngunis from our harlequins, they are "almost" the same size!
Temperament is a priority in our breeding program. Through intentional socialization, daily enrichment, and consistent positive handling, our Great Danes are raised to be confident, calm, and family-oriented. They are regularly exposed to people of all ages, other dogs, and everyday environments, supporting the development of the stable, gentle temperament the breed is known for.
We are committed to placing our puppies in carefully selected, permanent homes. Our puppies are placed with families across the country and internationally. With prior experience exporting puppies to Botswana, Namibia, and Zimbabwe, we are happy to assist with safe and reputable travel arrangements. Please contact us for further information regarding transport options.

Our Story

With a deep appreciation for the Great Dane breed, Karsten Danes began its breeding program in 2021 with our foundation sire, Brutus, and dam, Bella. Brutus, a black male with a German bloodline, and Bella, a striking harlequin, exemplified the temperament, structure, and health qualities we value.
Brutus possessed an exceptional temperament, strong conformation, pronounced jowls, and completed health testing—traits that support the responsible advancement of the breed.
From the beginning, our focus has remained on breeding Great Danes with excellent temperaments, sound health, and correct breed characteristics.
Since then, our Great Dane family has grown to seven. Karsten Danes, along with all of our dogs and puppies, is registered with Canine SA, the largest private genealogy registrar in South Africa. We are ethical breeders and adhere strictly to the Canine SA Code of Ethics. Our Great Danes undergo regular veterinary care, annual health evaluations, and multiple breed-specific screenings.
We provide ongoing support to all Karsten Danes families and are always available to answer questions or address concerns throughout the lifetime of our dogs.
Prospective families are welcome to visit our farm to meet our Great Danes.
